A recent car accident in Texas had already claimed one life, but it recently took a second after a teenager passed away in the hospital.
According to reports, a 2020 Nissan Armada ran a red light and hit a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. This happened close to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21 — just a few days before Christmas. The intersection for the fateful crash was the one in Killeen where Chaparral Road meets State Highway 195.
An Armada is an oversized SUV, while an Elantra is a compact car. This may have played into the accident, as all three people in the larger vehicle survived the accident with minor injuries. The driver in the compact car died right away, though, and the passenger suffered critical injuries. The driver was just 21 years old at the time of his death, and the passenger was 19.
Since she was so badly hurt, emergency crews rushed the teen girl to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center and then transferred her over to Scott & White Medical Center. That second center is located in Temple. Doctors did everything that they could, but she soon passed away from her injuries.
The investigation is ongoing, but it looks like the Elantra was turning left to enter Highway 195. That meant that the Armada hit it broadside when the driver ran the red light.
If you lose a loved one in a car accident, or if you suffer serious injuries yourself, it is important that you know about all of the legal rights you have to seek compensation.
