A tragic car accident in Texas recently took the lives of people from three different generations of the same family: A baby, the child’s mother and grandmother.
The accident happened on Wednesday, February 5. Reports claim that the man who caused it was arrested on DWI charges a few months before the wreck. He is now facing intoxication manslaughter charges after this latest accident.
That man is 30 years old. He, too, was injured in the accident and sent to Ben Taub. Deputies now have him in custody.
The three women were in a van, passing through an intersection. As they did so, the man allegedly ran the red light. This caused an initial accident with another vehicle. After that crash, he plowed into the van. It spun out of control and then caught on fire. Pictures from the scene show the blackened wreck, which is unrecognizable after the fire.
Another girl, an 11-year-old, was also in the van. She was the big sister to the infant boy who lost his life. Perhaps the only reason she survived is that the violent impact threw her from the van. She landed in the grass about 30 feet away.
A witness to the accident said that the fire spread quickly, noting that he had never before seen a car burn up so quickly.
In just a few seconds, a normal mid-week drive can turn into a catastrophe that takes multiple lives and leaves a family reeling. In cases like this, it is very important for the surviving family members to know exactly what legal rights they have.
